Gorilla Evening Monitor (Part-Time)

A rainy day, blind cat, and a desire to give back, were John's inspirations (and motivation), for pursuing a position with the Gorilla Foundation. One day, he happened upon a blind cat lost in the pouring rain. After rescuing and returning the cat to its grateful owner, John realized he wanted to do more, and looked for a special opportunity to help animals. Sure of his passion, but uncertain of the path this journey would take, John learned of a position available with the Gorilla Foundation. Recalling Koko’s relationship with her kitten “All Ball,” he was inspired.

John has many years (and miles) under his belt working as a flight attendant for United Airlines. In addition to his airline career, he is passionate for all animals, their protection, and preservation. John's background includes volunteer work at wildlife rescue centers and humane societies in the Bay Area. At the wildlife center, John cared for a variety of rehabilitating California wildlife, as well as permanent residents unable to be released back to the wild.

His most challenging and rewarding work was as a ’Custody Care’ volunteer at the Humane Society. This work involved care for domestic animals held at the center while their owners were on trial for cruelty, neglect, or abuse. Pit bulls were his passion and primary focus. The dogs came to the center with deep physical and emotional damage, and permanent scarring. John found it cruel and unfair that the pit bulls who had been abused and robbed of all innocence had to then live in incarceration because of the treatment received by their owners. The owners could be on trial for days, weeks, months, or longer. During this time, John would try to give the dogs back their innocence, dignity, and respect that was so deserved.

John is passionate about all animal rights, protection, and preservation and is honored to be part of the Gorilla Foundation team.
