Robin Williams Meets Koko
The Gorilla Foundation is extending the discoveries of Project Koko to Africa where gorillas are on the brink of extinction due to the exploitation by international corporations. Since 1999 we have partnered with the Biosynergy Institute in the creation of the Wildlife Protectors Fund.  WPF develops and supports innovative Africa Projects to save and protect gorillas orphaned by logging and commercial hunting, to restore humane conservation values, and to motivate leaders and communities to conserve Africa's magnificent natural heritage.
Michael Gorilla Sanctuary (Mefou National Park, Cameroon)
Entrance to Michael Sanctuary Bonding
The Michael Sanctuary is dedicated to the memory of the brilliant silverback, Michael, who was Koko's friend and protector for nearly three decades.

Supported by WPF and developed and managed by the the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF), it currently houses more than six growing gorillas, all orphans of the illegal bushmeat trade.
Interspecies Play Time Orphaned Baby
The CWAF caregivers love the gorillas and vice versa. They play together as a friendly family of great apes.

Soon we hope that the caregivers and gorillas will begin interspecies communication research programs, to examine their natural communication systems.  After that we will develop ways to expand their vocabularies.  This enables the best sanctuary conditions for apes (it's easier to care for them if they can tell you what they need).
Humane Conservation Values Education
Dr. Anthony Rose (WPF Director) Teaching Text Book
People must care about a species to save it — exposure to the lives of Koko and Michael makes people care!
We're restoring concern for gorillas and other wildlife by teaching with the books Koko's Kitten and Michael's Dream.
African students, teachers and villagers are excited about this material, and are sharing their stories and legends with with us as well.
Education curricula is expanding to promote the values of biosynergy — the harmony among all forms of life.
WPF Teacher/Trainer Reads with Students Penny Fraser
Assistant WPF Director, Penny Fraser, is helping WPF Director, Dr. Anthony Rose make the above education elements successful via her dedicated presence in Cameroon.
Training teachers in Cameroon and having them, in turn, train (and certify) others, appears to be a replicable process that can reach a large number of students without a correspondingly large budget.
Leadership Alliance Development
Gorillas cannot be saved by education alone. Political and economic leaders must be involved to convert hunters and consumers into Wildlife Protectors.
Dr. Anthony Rose (WPF Director) and Chris Mitchell (CWAF Founder) help local chiefs, national and global leaders, and diplomats to create a viable future for great apes.
The synergy of Sanctuaries, Education and Leadership can be replicated across Africa — with your support!
