Dear
Koko's Friend,
You may have heard that thousands of western lowland gorillas have been “discovered” in a relatively unexplored region of the Republic of Congo. This news, which actually reflects an improved count, not a new population, is certainly cause for celebration — but not for complacency:
Gorillas remain critically endangered — despite new counts from the Congo.
All western lowland gorillas (Koko's cousins) — including those in the recently-surveyed population — continue to be aggressively hunted and killed for bushmeat at an alarming rate. And the other three sub-species of gorillas are almost extinct.
We must broaden our efforts to inform, educate, protect and defend on behalf of all gorillas.
I urge you to read each of the eNews highlights (right sidebar) to learn how we are extending Ambassador Koko's power in Africa and worldwide. By bringing hearts and minds to a realization of the intrinsic worth and true nature of great apes — through interspecies communication discoveries, empathy-based education and on-the-ground conservation — we can save them!
Please donate today to help Koko meet the challenge!
Thank you for your donation — it will make a lasting difference!
With love and appreciation,
Penny and Koko
