Dear Friend,
Did you know that Koko was born on July 4th and that her full name is Hanabi-Ko, which means "fireworks child" in Japanese?
Today I invite you to join our year-long celebration of her 38th birthday, as we do our utmost to fulfill her top 3 wishes, which she has shared with me and which mirror our mission:
| 1. |
Koko wishes to have a baby of her own, or to adopt. The addition of a baby to Koko's family would not only make Koko very happy but also lead to a next-generation gorilla ambassador who can continue to speak with us.
|
| 2. |
Koko wishes for the day when the Maui Preserve is a reality and she and her family can enjoy the additional space and a better climate. Completion of this preserve will provide a safe refuge for gorillas in need and a unique educational center for teaching conservation through communication.
|
| 3. |
Koko wishes that people will become aware of the plight of her species and take action before it is too late. As Koko says, "people need to be polite." Through our empathy-based conservation efforts in Africa and worldwide we are helping Koko raise the awareness she seeks. |
All of Koko’s wishes are within reach. She can still conceive or adopt a baby gorilla, and work is underway to make the Maui Ape Preserve a sustainable reality that will play an important role in furthering the survival of the species. Once Koko's first and second wishes are fulfilled, the third will logically follow.
I feel there is so much to celebrate on Koko's birthday in this special "year of the gorilla" but we need you by our side. Please help us fulfill Koko's three wishes by making a generous donation now.
Koko and I appreciate everything you do to make the world safer for gorillas and other great apes (including humans) and wish you a happy Independence Day!
With much love and many thanks,
Penny and Koko
