In the above video, Koko looks through a book titled Koko-love, a chronicle of her life with me and her extended interspecies family.
As she flips through the pages, she finds a photo of me holding her beloved young gorilla companion Michael. Koko gently kisses the image of Mike and makes her “Kiss Goodbye” gesture, a sign of her enduring affection.
Later, she also blows a kiss goodbye when she sees a picture of her late cherished cat, Smoky, sleeping on her chest.
Koko’s deep emotional connections shine through in these tender moments of remembrance. You see she loved — and grieved — much like we do.
