Dear Friend,

Just before the end of the year (2024) we conducted a Conservation Camp in Cameroon, Africa to introduce students to the world of Koko. Using the Koko App as an educational tool, the teachers taught the students some of Koko’s favorite signs, and then showed them videos of how Koko used sign language in conversations.

I wanted to share some clips from this classroom with you, as it was so encouraging to see how much the kids enjoyed learning sign language from Koko and how attentive and engaged they were throughout the session.

This is just the beginning of a curriculum that will take the students from communication to conservation — watching the same kinds of videos we send you every week from our 5-decade archive, but with the extra comprehension that learning sign language brings to the experience. We’ll be sharing more of this journey with you in the months ahead.

Remember that you too can learn to sign with Koko, using our Koko Signs: app, which you can download and use for free here — for either iphone or android.

And if you’re already learning to sign, and about gorillas, from Koko’s app, please share some feedback with us, so we can continue to improve the experience for everyone, and make it a more powerful conservation (through communication) tool.

Thank you!
