Dear Friend,
In the above video, we see Koko and her companions, Michael and Ndume, enjoy time outside in the spring of 1992.
Michael lets out a contented purr, as he relaxes in the grass. He and Koko welcomed Ndume into the group in late 1991.
Ndume looks happy and relaxed as he savors a special rice cake treat.
Gorilla groups are essential for emotional well-being, social learning, and the natural expression of gorilla’s intelligence and empathy.
Humans can also form close bonds with gorillas and gorilla groups (as we did) in captive settings. Both types of “family” bonds can be extremely important to their well-being.
