This gorilla carving was made by local people in Uganda and the proceeds went to an orphanage for children who lost their parents to AIDS.
Those same children spend a lot of their classroom time in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest learning about conservation and the mountain gorilla.
This wooden figure seems to be a statement of interconnectedness of local culture, people”s lives, conservation and the survival of the gorilla.
It is a thank you gift to the Gorilla Foundation from Stephen Ham, Jane Goodall”s student intern, representing our shared commitment to save the great apes.
