As some of you know, gorillas like to be higher than humans when the two interact (which is why mountain gorilla tour guides ask you to sit down when you actually find a gorilla family).
Koko seems to agree with this cultural trait, and often places herself about 20 feet above the fray, as shown here.
High platforms attached to mesh walls are also good because they help femaie gorillas (like Koko) evade male gorillas (like Ndume) when they”re not in the mood to play – they also provide a good place to “meditate.”
