Koko has been carrying this little baby doll around with her alot lately. Here she”s seen looking through Penny”s lab notebook, with the baby in her lap.
Instead of constantly complaining all the time (having a baby is her most treasured wish) Koko seems to make the best of things, treating her dolls (and kittens when they visit) as if they were her babies. And also sending (and signing) a message to Penny and the rest of us that she”s not giving up.
Neither are we; it”s part of our mission to help her have a baby – either naturally or adoptively – so that she can mentor the next generation of gorillas that can speak to us in our own language, and thus help save an entire species.
