In this still frame from a recent Koko video filming, Koko has just blown a kiss to Penny. In the full video clip, after Koko blows the kiss, she then demonstrates a “fake” sneeze, at Penny’s request. There are lots of examples of Koko exhibiting pretense behaviors – which children do as well as captive great apes.
